Sterling Heights High School hosted its annual Cancer Awareness Football Game on September 16

The Sterling Heights football program pays special tribute to the lives of loved ones affected by cancer by wearing a custom jersey with the name of a cherished loved one who either lost their battle, is a survivor, or is currently fighting the disease. Proceeds from the game are donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand in memory of former SHHS Varsity Football backup quarterback and Captain Brian Thomas who passed away from spinal cord cancer in 2011. Since the inception of the Cancer Awareness game six years ago, SHHS has donated more than $50,000 to cancer research in Thomas’ name.
