Highlights

 

6-2-17 vs Cousino

            On Friday June 2nd the Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team took the field for what ended up being their final game for the season.  The Stallions lost to Cousino in the district playoff at Fraser High School 3-0 in 6.5 innings.  Hitters on the day for the Stallions were Sara Schultz, Elizabeth Evers, Danielle Erickson, and Senior Shelby SegarSara took the loss on the mound allowing 5 hits and 3 walks on the day.  The Stallions did put up 4 hits themselves and moved runners onto 2nd and 3rd but could not push those runners across the plate.  The program this year will be losing 3 seniors but look forward to what the future shall bring.  The team hopes nothing but the best for what the future holds for Sloane O’Brien, Alyssa Marchi, and Captain Shelby Segar.  You young ladies will be missed and the coaching staff wishes you all the best.  Thank you for your amazing high school softball careers.

 

5-24-17 vs Cousino

            On Wednesday May 24th the Lady Stallions Varsity softball team fell to Cousino in their annual Cancer game.  This year they raised money for Wigs 4 Kids (out of St. Claire Shores) to help out local children afflicted with various medical needs that causes hair loss.  The event was successful and the team hopes to provide at least one wig paid in full for a child.  As for the games Cousino swept the Stallions in the Staff/Parent/Alumni Game, Varsity Game, and JV game.  Offensively for the Stallions in the Staff/Parent/Alumni game our very own Eric “Wheels” Wachterhauser lead off the first inning with an inside the park Homerun to Left field, other notable contributors was Mr. Evers, Mr. Turner, Mr./Mrs. Haslett, along with some Sterling Alumni in Melissa Thueme and Ch’Kayla Fuqua.  As for the Varsity game the top performances offensively were turned in by:  Sara Schultz 2 for 3, 1 RBI, 2 Runs, Danielle Erickson 2 for 3, 2 RBI, 3 Runs, and Shelby Segar 3 for 3, 3 RBI, single, double, triple, 1 run scored.  Pitching for the Stallions was handled by Elizabeth Evers, Olivia Davis, Danielle Joles, and Katie Schultz who took most of the mound time pitching 3.1 innings of the 5 inning game.  Nice Job ladies.  The team will now take a few days rest before returning to practice to prepare for post season (state tournament) play where they will once again face off with Cousino on Friday June 2nd at 11:30 AM at Fraser High School.

 

5-23-17

            On Tuesday May 23rd the Lady Stallions Varsity softball team lost a tough one 5-3 to South Lake for the final home game of the season.  This dropped the Stallions to 4-6 in league play and 9-14 overall.  The league record finished with a tie in 4th for the division.  The bats for the stallions again were cold as only 5 hits were recorded in the 7 innings by the Stallions but the girls were setting fire to the bases as they stole 6 bases on the day.  Danielle Erickson had 2 hits on the day, Elizabeth Evers, Alyssa Marchi, and Sloane O’Brien each added 1 hit a piece.  Stephanie Turner and Shelby Segar each had 1 RBI.  Last game before playoffs begin will be on Wednesday May 24th at 7pm against Cousino at Halmich Park for the Cancer Game.  Sterling will then face off against Cousino in District Action on Friday June 2nd with an 11:30 start time.

 

5-19-17 vs Lakeview

            On Friday May 19th the Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team dropped a 10-0 game to MAC Crossover Opponent Lakeview, this dropped the Stallion to 9-13 overall as they remain 4-5 in league play.  Hitters on the day were Jenna Pastorino 2-2, Elizabeth Evers (double), Alyssa Marchi, Sloane O’Brien, and Stephanie Turner each also had a hit.  The bats from Lakeview had a couple strong innings stringer together multiple deep hits to the outfield, which was too much for the Stallions to overcome in the end.  The regular season game schedule wraps up this week as the Stallion host League Opponent South Lake tomorrow (Tuesday May 23rd) at 4:30, the final regular season game for the Stallions is Wednesday May 24th at Halmich Park with a 7pm start for a Fundraiser for Wigs 4 Kids of St. Claire Shores.  Come on out and support the teams.  Both the JV and Varsity will be playing on adjacent fields against Cousino.

 

5-18-17 vs Centerline

            On Thursday May 18th the Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team dropped an 8-3 game to League opponent Centerline on what was a wind filled day on the field as strong winds wreaked havoc on the ball movement.  The loss drops the Stallions to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in league play. 

Top hitting performances were turned in by Shelby Segar 2-4, Elizabeth Evers 2-3, also Katie Schultz, Sloane O’Brien, and Alyssa Marchi each added a hit.  Alyssa also had some great sac bunts to move the runners up into scoring position.  Sara Schultz took the loss on the mound throwing 4.2 innings with 1 K, in relief Elizabeth Evers threw 1.1 innings giving up 0 hits and striking out 1.  The team has 3 regular season games left: Friday May 19th at Lakeview, Tuesday May 23rd Home against South Lake which will be Senior Day, and Wednesday May 24th which will be the Cancer game raising funds for Wigs 4 Kids at Halmich park with a 7pm start against Cousino.

 

5-12-17 vs Warren Mott

            On Friday May 12th the Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team lost to Warren Mott 5-3.  Despite what was a very close game a couple of well timed and well placed hits in the 7th by the Maurauders proved to be the difference.  The Stallions managed 6 hits on Friday with Shelby Segar leading the way 2-3 with a double and 1 RBI, also adding hits were Danielle Erickson, Danielle Joles, Jenna Pastorino, and Sara Schultz with a double and 1 RBI.  Katie Schultz, Shelby Segar, and Danielle Erickson scored for the Stallions, and Sara Schultz took the loss on the mound after a very good day pitching surrendering 9 hits, 0 walks, and 3 K’s.  This drops the Stallions to 9-10 overall with League games away at New Haven on Tuesday the 16th, away at Centerline Thursday the 18th, and away at Lakeview on Friday  the 19th. 

 

5-11-17 vs Clintondale

            The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team beat Clintondale 3-2 in 6.5 innings on Thursday May 11th.  This improves the ladies to 4-3 in league play and 9-9 overall.  The Stallions fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but plated a run in the 2nd.  The score remained tied at 1-1 until the 5th when the Stallions again found themselves in a 1 run deficit game.  The ladies did not waiver though and plated 2 runs in the 6th and walked away victorious after a 3 up 3 down inning defensively in the 7th.  Hitters on the day were Danielle Erickson, Jenna Pastorino, and Sara Schultz.  The Stallions plated their runs by aggressive base running stealing 6 bases on the day, Shelby Segar lead the team with 3 stolen bases.  The stolen bases proved critical in the game as they allowed Shelby Segar to score twice, and Stephanie Turner to be plated as the go ahead run.  Defensively the Stallions were strong and Sara Schultz took the win on the mound surrending 4 hits, 3 Ks, 0 walks, and one hit batter.  Nice job ladies.  Next up the Stallions host Warren Mott on Friday May 12th, and then back to league play as they travel to New Haven on Tuesday May 16th, Centerline Thursday May 18th, and non league opponent Lakeview on Friday May 19th.  Good Luck Ladies!!

 

5-9-17 vs. Lamphere

            The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team defeated Lamphere 16-14 in a shoot out on Tuesday May 9th.  This improves the Ladies to 3-3 in League Play and 8-9 overall.  Sara Schultz got the win on the mound striking out five.  The offensive onslaught was once again lead by  Sloane O’Brien who was 4-5 with a triple at the plate and 2 RBI, following her was Jenna Pastorino 3-4 with 2 RBI, Sara Schultz 4-6 and Stephanie Turner 2-3 with 2 RBI.  Great job ladies, they will be set to extend this win streak on Thursday at home against League opponent Clintondale.  Good Luck Ladies.

 

5-8-17 vs South Lake

            After a temporary hiatus due to a week long rain session.  The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team was back in action on Monday May 8th in an 11-1 league match up victory over South Lake.  This improve the ladies to 2-3 in league play and 7-9 overall.  Sara Schultz got the win on the mound for the Stallions as she gave up only 3 hits with 5 K’s in 7 innings of play.  Offensively the Stallions were lead by Senior Sloane O’Brien who went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, Shelby Segar 1 for 2 with a double and 3 runs scored, and Danielle Erickson 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs.  Danielles double was 2 inches short of clearing the fence as it bounced off the top yellow guard rail and fell back into play.  The ladies have a busy week ahead with a league game Tuesday May 9th at Lamphere with a 4 pm start, a home game Thursday May 11th against league opponent Clintondale, and round out the week with Warren Mott on Friday at home.  Good luck ladies!

 

5-2-17 vs Centerline

            In an extremely cold setting the Lady Stallions lost to League opponent Centerline 16-8 on Tuesday May 2nd.  This drops the Stallions to 1-3 in league play and 6-9 overall. 

Katie Schultz, Shelby Segar, Danielle Erickson, Danielle Joles all had multiple hits on the day.  Katie and Shelby lead the way both going 3-4, Shelby had single, double, triple and 2 RBIs as well.  Sara Schultz to the loss on the mound giving up 12 hits and striking out 4.  This drops the Stallions to 1-3 in league play and 6-9 overall.  The ladies will bounce back and get back after the league games on Thursday May 4th when they travel to South Lake for a 4pm start.  Good luck ladies.

 

4-29-17 vs Cousino

            The Lady Stallions lost to Cousino in the Championship game for the WCS Round Robin Tournament on Saturday April 29th 12-2 in 5 innings.  The stallions struggled at the plate hitting against Cousino recording hits for the Stallions were Sara Schultz, Shelby Segar both who had multiple hits, Shelby also had 1 RBI, and Stephanie Turner and Danielle Joles.  The stallions offense couldn’t string their hits together to put more runs up on the board which ultimately resulted in the loss while Cousinos bats were hot as they racked up the hits.  This dropped the Stallions to 6-8 overall.  The Stallions Varsity are at home this week and next take on Centerline in league play on Tuesday with a 4:30 start time and South lake on Thursday with a 4:00 start.

 

4-29-17 vs Warren Mott

            The Lady Stallions opened up the WCS Round Robin Tournament on Saturday April 29th with a 12-1 win over Warren Mott in 6 innings.  Getting the win from the mound was Junior Hurler Sara Schultz who threw a great game, her total pitch count in 6 innings was 52 and she gave up a total of 2 hits, 1 walk, and had 4 K’s on her outing.  At the plate Sara was 2-4 with a triple, Shelby Segar lead the offensive onslaught going 4-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIS and 2 Runs scored, Danielle Erickson went 3-3 with a double 1 RBI and 4 runs scored, and lastly Elizabeth Evers was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 1 Run scored.  Great job ladies this improved the Stallions to 6-7 overall.

 

4-27-17 vs New Haven

            The Lady Stallions fell to League Opponent New Haven on Thursday April 27th.  The Stallions started the game off well and kept New Haven in check.  However late in the game a few errors and some well timed hits cost the Stallions the game in the 20-3 loss.  This drops the Stallions to a 1-2 League record and 5-7 overall.  Top offensive performances were turned in by

Danielle Erickson, Sara Schultz, Stephanie Turner, and Alyssa Marchi who all recorded a hit Alyssa also drove in a run.  Shelby Segar hit a 2 run Homerun over center field fence in the 6th inning.  The Stallions take on Warren Mott and Cousino on Saturday April 29th at SHHS for the first annual WCS District Tournament.  They return to league play on Tuesday May 2nd at Home when they take on Centerline.  Good Luck Ladies.

 

4-25-17 vs Clintondale

            The Lady Stallions defeated division opponent Clintondale 19-3 in 5 innings on Tuesday April 25th.  This improves the Stallions to 1-1 in league play and 5-6 overall.  The stallion bats caught fire on Tuesday with several ladies having multiple hits.  Top performances at the plate were turned in by Sara Schultz 3 for 5, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 3 Runs; Stephanie Turner 3 for 5, 2 triples, 4 RBI, 2 Runs, Turner scored on both triples through fielding errors; Shelby Segar 3 for 5, 2 Runs; and Danielle Joles 3 for 4, 2 doubles, 1 Run.  Sara got the win on the mound for the Stallions giving up 3 hits and fanning 7.  Way to go Ladies, the team continues play on Thursday April 27th when they host Division opponent New Haven at 4:30.  #raisetheW

 

4-24-17 vs Lamphere

The Lady Stallions suffered a tough loss from Lamphere in their League Opener on Monday April 24th.  The final score was 6-5 after extra innings.  The Stallions fell behind in the first inning.  The stallions struggled at the plate for the first few innings before finally stringing together a few hits in the 5th inning to tie the game up at 5 a piece.  The Stallions gave up the first 5 runs in the first 3 innings then did not allow a Lamphere Player to reach 1st during the 4th through 7th innings.  The stallions could not plate the go ahead run in the 6th or the 7th.  A leadoff double in the 8th by Lamphere sealed the Stallions fate as the bats went cold again in the 8th.  This drops the Stallions to 0-1 in league play and 4-6 overall.  Top hitters on the day were Shelby Segar 3-4 with a double and 3 RBIS, Sara Schultz 2-3 with a double and an RBI and Olivia Davis with a  double and a run scored.  The stallions next travel to Clintondale to continue league play on Tuesday April 25th and then come back home on Thursday April 27th for more league play against New Haven.

 

4-21-17 vs Lake Shore

            The Lady Stallions suffered a loss from Lake Shore on Friday April 21st by a score of 10-4 the bats of the Shorians and a good pitching staff proved too much for the Stallions to overcome.  There were some highlights throughout the game as Danielle Erickson went 2-3 at the plate with a single, double, 2 RBIs and a run scored along with Katie Schultz who also got a hit with an RBI and scored a run.  Defensivley the Stallions picked off a runner at third and Sloane O’Brien made a great diving catch in the 5th inning for the third out.  The stallions have a busy week ahead with games on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and the WCS Tournament Saturday.  The Stallions host Lamphere for a rain make up on Monday April 24th at 4:30.  Good luck ladies.

 

4-18-17 vs Lincoln

            The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team defeated Lincoln 17-7 in 6 innings through run mercy rule.  Danielle Erickson accounted for the 17th run to put the Stallions ahead by 10 ending the game on a delayed steal of home.  For the offense several Ladies had multiple hits top performances were turned in by Danielle Erickson 4-4 3 RBIs 3 Runs, Katie Schultz 3-5 1 RBI 1 Run, Stephanie Turner 2-3 1 RBI 2 Runs, and Danielle Joles 2-3 3 RBIs.  In her first Varsity outing on the mound, Katie Schultz got the win pitching the last 3 innings giving up 2 hits, no runs and striking out 1.  Defensively the Stallions even turned a double play on a shoe string catch by Katie Schultz and a quick throw to first to double off the runner.  Great job ladies.  The Stallions begin league play on Thursday April 20th against Lamphere at home with a 4:30 start time.  

 

4-17-17 vs Fitzgerald

            The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team defeated Fitzgearld High School 14-13 in 6.5 innings on Monday April 17th.  This improves the Stallions to 3-4 overall.  The Stallions fell behind early 10-2 in the first inning be were far from defeated outscoring Fitzgerald 12-3 over the next 5.5 innings.  Offensive standout performances were turned in by Shelby Segar 2-4 with and RBI and 2 runs scored, Danielle Erickson 2-4 with 3 runs scored, Olivia Davis 2-3 with an RBI, and Stephanie Turner 1-2 with 3 runs scored and an RBI.  Stephanie also got the win for the Stallions on the mound striking out 3.  Defensively the stallions held the Spartans scoreless in 4 innings.  Some clutch defense by the infield that resulted in 2 double plays lead to half the scoreless innings.  The sixth and seventh innings to seal the win were lead by Danielle Erickson (3rd Base) and Olivia Davis (Catcher).  Great job ladies.  The stallions next host Lincoln on Tuesday April 18th at home and then open league play on Thursday April 20th at home against Lamphere and close the week out on Friday the 21st at home against Lake Shore.  Best of luck Stallions!!

 

4-13-17 vs Grosse Pointe South

                The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team lost to Grosse Pointe South 18-3 in 3 innings on Thursday April 13th.  This drops the Stallions to a 2-4 overall recJune 5, 2017y, but some misques by the Sterling defense lead to the lop sided score.  The hitter of the day for the Stallions was Shelby Segar who was 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.  The defense did struJune 5, 2017June 5, 2017e out delivered by Elizabeth Evers, which is when the offense put up the three runs.  The ladies continue to improve and despite the loss they were motivated on Friday the 14th and ran a very successful fundraiser for the softball program.  The stallions next host four home games beginning on Monday April 17th with Fitzgerald.  Best of luck ladies, GO STALLIONS!

 

4-12-17 vs Madison

                The Lady Stallions Varsity Softball team defeated Madison by a score of 19-6 in 4.5 innings on Wednesday April 12th.  This improves the team to a 2-3 overall record.  Every Stallion earned a hit on the day but top performances were turned in offensively by Danielle Joles 2 for 2 with 1 RBI, Danielle Erickson 2 for 4 with a double 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, Katie Schultz 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run, and Shelby Segar 3 for 4 with a triple, in the park home run, and a 230 foot home run over right field fence with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Stephanie Turner got the win on the mound striking out 5 and giving up 6 hits through 5 innings of work.  The stallion defense was flawless and did not commit an error in the game.  Great job ladies.  The Stallions travel to Grosse Pointe South on Thursday April 13th for a 4:30 pm contest start.  Best of luck ladies!!

 

4-10-17 vs Lanse Creuse North

The Lady Stallion Varsity Softball team fell to Lanse Creuse North on Monday April 10th, 23-7 in 5 innings. The bats of LCN coupled with a few mistakes proved too much for the Stallions to overcome. Top hitters on the day were Danielle Erickson 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and Elizabeth Evers with a double and 2 RBIs. Defensively Olivia Davis did a great job behind the plate and the ladies did make some solid defensive stances. The second game of the double header was called due to lightning in the bottom of the 4th. The Stallions next take on Madison on Wednesday April 12th at Home with a 4:30 start time. JV will also be playing at home that same day against Fitzgerald. The stallions are now 1-3 overall best of luck ladies!!

3-29-17 vs Fraser

                The Lady Stallion Varsity Softball team fell to Fraser on Wednesday March 29th 10-0 in 5 innings. The hot bats of the Ramblers were too much for the Stallions to overcome as they struggled at the Dish on the Day.  Junior hurler Sara Schultz had the lone hit of the day for the Stallions with a Double to Left Field fence.  Sara also took the loss on the mound for the Stallions, but surrendered no walks.  Defensively the Stallions look to work on some things over the Spring Break before their next game on Monday April 10th for a double header at Lanse Creuse North.  This drop the ladies to 1-2 overall.

 

3-23-17 vs Clawson

                The Lady Stallion Varsity Softball team opened their season at home on Thursday March 23rd.  Despite the extreme cold the ladies started the season with a win 17-15, top performers on the day were Sara Schultz who got the win on the mound and had multiple RBIs, Katie Schultz and Sloane O’Brien who also had multiple RBIs.  Top hitters were Danielle Erickson, Katie Schultz, and Sara Schultz all with 2 each.  Shelby Segar totaled 4 runs as well for the Stallions.  Top mention goes to Brianna McBride who plated the final two runs for the team in the 7th.  With bases loaded and 9 girls on the infield Brianna ripped a single through the middle, plating Sara and Shelby for the walk off win.  Great job ladies.  The Stallions next host Warren Woods Tower on Monday March 27that 4:30.  1-0 on the season.
