Students in Mrs. MacKenzie's 4th grade class at Susick Elementary presented Regions Got Talent! a social studies opera conceived, written, and composed by the students under the direction of the Michigan Opera Theater.
Our littlest learners recently received their completion certificates during a preschool Bridging Ceremony at Hatherly Educational Center. Best of luck to the Hatherly students who will “bridge” their way to new schools in the fall.
The Sterling Heights High School award winning saxophone quartet, under the direction of Band Director Anthony Imbrunone, was recently the featured concert at the Qube in Detroit.
WCS students were honored at the Festival of the Arts awards ceremony on May 11 at the Warren Community Center. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade were recognized for their two and three dimensional artwork. The event was sponsored by the WCS Art Educators.
Students from Angus and Harwood visited the Detroit Zoo for a meaningful curriculum focused experience. Students received a guided walking tour through several exhibits and then headed into the classroom to participate in a life cycle program. All WCS first graders take part in the zoo partnership.
Students in Ms. Jaberoo's 5th grade STEM class at Holden and Siersma Year-Round Elementary Schools recently participated in a Raingutter Regatta. Students designed and constructed sailboats and raced against their classmates. The project was made possible thanks to a grant by the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan.
Career Preparation Center student Jalyn Chirco received the Michigan 2017 Breaking Traditions Merit Award.
WCS recently held its annual Fun Field Day at Cousino High School. Track and field events, plus other hands-on activities were held throughout the school. The event was hosted by the Special Education Department, in cooperation with the Cousino Peer 2 Peer program.
Black Elementary School recently hosted a multicultural fair. Students had the opportunity to observe cultural presentations, sample various cultural cuisine, enjoy entertainment, plus much more.
The 2016-2017 WCS Writing Celebration honored student authors from each building and grade level. The Elementary Writing Celebration featured author Brian Chick as the guest speaker. The Secondary Writing Celebration featured Craig Custance, senior hockey writer for ESPN. One student from each school was selected to have their writing piece showcased, and turned into a digital story.
The generous students and staff at Sterling Heights High School raised $27,750 during Charity Week, March 20-24. Charity Week, hosted by the SHHS Leadership class, is a week dedicated to raising funds for a charity or individual in need.
