Allergies: What Causes Them To Develop?

The research was done in order to determine how heredity and environment affect the development of allergies. It was done to prove or disprove the hypothesis that the tendency to become allergic is hereditary, while the ability to develop a specific allergy is environmentally influenced. Data was collected from a questionnaire, which was completed by high school students, and from lab tests done in Denver . Chi-square tests and t-tests were utilized, with a 95 percent confidence level, to test the significance of the data. It was determined that the tendency to become allergic is caused by heredity, while the development of a specific allergy is due to environmental influence. Therefore, the hypothesis was verified with reasonable accuracy and significant statistical support.
