THE EFFECT OF ULTRASOUND ON THE GROWTH OF BACTERIA

This experiment found the effect of ultrasonic sound on the growth of bacteria. It was done via a 3-factor Design of Experiment. The three factors tested were the lining of the box used to contain the Petri dishes and emitter (aluminum foil to reflect the waves, rubber to absorb them), the frequency of ultrasound emitted, and the distance between the emitter and the bacteria colonies. When the variables were applied to each other, it was found that only the combined factors of frequency and type of lining and the combined factors of distance and type of lining had significant effects on decreasing the growth rate of bacteria.
