The Effect of Spices on the Growth of Bacteria

The objective of the experiment was to find out which of the following spices: curry powder, paprika, cinnamon, or salt has the greatest effect of inhibition of growth on Staphylococcus Epidermidis in the mouth. By researching and testing the growth of Staphylococcus Epidermidis medical personnel and researchers have a stronger basis of information to use to learn how to cure and prevent the illnesses caused by Staphylococcus Epidermidis. In the experiment, the researchers tested the growth of bacteria in the mouth. After placing a known amount of bacteria in several petri dishes, the treatment (composed of each spice) was given to each, and the effect was recorded and observed after a certain amount of time. The change in the number of bacteria colonies would describe the effect of each spice treatment. The researchers accepted their hypothesis, which was that bacteria growth would be inhibited or affected by the treatments. In fact, cinnamon is the spice treatment that inhibited bacteria growth the most, but not all spices had a significant effect on the bacteria growth.
