Dasalinization Via Distillation

The purpose of the investigation was to determine if salt concentration and/or water type affected the distillation of saltwater. To accomplish this objective, a distillation apparatus was constructed and utilized for the experimental process. After a DOE (Design of Experiment) was conducted, the results were calculated and analyzed. The lower salt concentrations and the distilled water provided the greatest values in the data. It seems logical that it would require less time and energy to desalinate water containing smaller amounts of salt. Likewise, water already purified would thus be distilled more readily. No interaction was found between the factors since the two water sources are similar enough that they would not greatly affect the absorbtion of heat and desalination of the salt solutions.
