The Effect of Antioxidants on Treating Cancer in Plants

The goal of our research was to find the effect of antioxidants in the development of crown gall tumors in Coleus plants. Our hypothesis stated that therapy with antioxidants prior to induction of cancer in the Coleus plants would hinder tumor development. we induced carcinoma Agrobacterium tumefaciens into the stems of Coleus Plants and treated the plants with antioxidants dissolved in water. Over the course of three weeks, we did not see a clear effect of the antioxidants, though the plants with cancer did show an unhealthier appearance than those without the cancer.
