Determination of Caffeine Concentration by Spectrometry

The purpose of this experiment was to determine which of ten beverages had the highest concentration of caffeine. The beverages were tested by spectrometry, using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Each beverage was run through ten trials and the average abosrbance was used to calculate concentration. We used one-factor statistical analysis to determine which beverage contained the most caffeine. Our hypothesis that the espresso would contain the highest concentration of caffeine was partially correct. The espresso contained the highest concentration per milliliter, but coffee contained a higher concentration per serving.
