The Amount of Energy Lost When Reacting Certain Acids and Bases With Different Minerals

In this experiment, we determined whether certain chemicals would release energy when reacted with an acid or a base. We measured temperature change during the reaction and calculated the amount of energy lost. We made a simple calorimeter to measure this temperature change with Styrofoam cups and a calculator-based sensor system. The results were that some chemicals react more with acids or bases than others.
