THE EFFECTS OF SULFURIC ACID ON ADHESIVE BONDS

The purpose of our experiment was to determine which factors, the molarity of sulfuric acid, the type of adhesive used, the time the bond was exposed to the acid, and the material the h-bars were made of, had the greatesteffect on the tnsile strength of the construction adhesives. The h-bars were designed to simulate a common outdoor construction utilizing an adhesive. After soaking the h-bars for a designated time in a specific molarity, the tensile strength was tested by the amount of mass each h-bar could hold before breaking. The four-factor DOE preformed showed that all of the variables had an effect except for the type of adhesive used to create the bond. The variable with the largest effect was the interaction between time and bond.
