A Pattern Of Excellence: An Investigation Into The Effect Of The Defrost Line Pattern On The Time Needed To Defrost A Model Windshield

The intention of our research was to study the effect of the pattern of defrost wires on the time needed to defrost a model windshield. The two line patterns that we used were vertical lines and horizontal lines, made with copper wire. We found that the pattern currently used in automobiles, which is horizontal lines, had a lower average time needed to defrost windshields than a vertical line pattern. To conclude, our experiment showed that the defrost wire pattern that was currently being used in most windshields (the horizontal pattern) worked faster than another possible pattern (the vertical pattern).
