WHICH MATERIAL OF NEODYMIUM, ALNICO, AND CERAMIC WILL HAVE THE GREATEST SOUND AMPLITUDE AND THE LEAST NUMBER OF PEAKS ON AN FFT TABLE WHEN USED AS THE MAGNETS IN GUITAR PICKUPS

The objective of this investigation was to determine which magnetic material would provide the greatest amplitude and the least number of significant frequency peaks on an FFT graph when used as the magnet in guitar pickups. The experiment required an electric guitar. The magnets, which had various magnetic field strengths, used in the bridge pickup were changed. The amplitude was measured in pascals and the frequency peaks were counted for each trial. Three ANOVA tests were used to compare the means of the three magnetic materials. The statistical tests used showed that there was great significance in our findings. The null hypotheses stated that all means were equal. They were all rejected at the .05 alpha levels. From the data, it can be stated that ceramic magnets had the highest pressure amplitudes for both high E and low E notes and the least number of frequency peaks.
