Dear WCS Community,
Please find below an update on key issues in Warren Consolidated Schools.
BUDGET
I felt it was important to update you on the financial situation of WCS given the recent state funding reductions. We were notified earlier this month that our funding was going to be reduced by $165 dollars per student. This week, additional cuts of $245 and then an additional $127 per student were also announced. These reductions total $537 per student, which is about 6% of our total school funding. An additional burden for WCS is that these funding reductions are coming four months into our budget year, which ends June 30, 2010, leaving us with little time to react and make adjustments accordingly.
Please know the Board of Education and I are working to respond to this funding crisis, and it is premature to speculate until the legislature and the Governor complete the budget process. The bottom line is that we need a long term solution to the funding problem, and it will require the input and efforts of every parent and community member. Without a strong public education system, Michigan has no future.
H1N1
We are staying in close contact with the Macomb County Health Department regarding the H1N1 Flu Virus. Please visit http://www.wcskids.net for more information.
Thanks for your continued support.
